this hotel was in a great location, it was a short walk over the bridge from the train station to the main island in Venezia. We were surprised at the age of the hotel but it was very well kept. Rooms were clean, a little dated, but nice. Hotel is right across the Grand Canal from the train station, which is nice not having to look for your hotel in the maze of Venice streets. Breakfast was very good. My only complaint was that there was no place to check email. They need to add a kiosk or have a shared computer somewhere.

Just returned from A 3 day break in Venice. Stayed at the Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal. Great Location from airport we used bus service 6euros each then 30 mins later checking into the hotel. Considering most of Venice, including the hotel, had been flooded only 4 days earlier, we were expecting the worst. However the hotel was immaculately clean and fully functioning, with no signs of recent watery incursion. We've stayed here before, and it was just as good this time. Considering Venice is quite expensive, this is a good value hotel. Breakfast is buffet-style and plentiful, with excellent coffee. We didn't eat in the restaurant because there are so many excellent ones in the streets round the hotel, but we did use the bar for a few glasses of wine served by a very pleasant lady. The location is great - just 5 minutes walk from the airport bus stop, so no dragging your luggage for miles, and right on the No 1 Vaporetto route along the Grand Canal. The ticket office for public transportation and the train station are also within sight of the hotel. The front desk staff was extremely rude.I actually saw him berating a hotel quest. When I asked him a question , he was very abrupt. The dining room staff was not good and the room was not worth the price. I even found mold in our room. The sheet / cover had a smelly odor and our t.v was not working.

The only small downside to the stay was they don't provide hair conditioner. The location was so convenient. We arrived by train, and upon exiting the station, you look across the spectacular Grand Canal and see the hotel. I have also had the opportunity to SPLURGE (paying just as much) and stay in ***** star rooms and truly indulged in the luxury of every single star ... and LOOOOVED IT! Hotel room was tired and a bit stale smelling. Location was perfect for us as it was an easy walk from where the shuttle dropped us from the airport and an easy trip to the train when we departed. Also easy to find your way back to your accomodation by following signs to the train station.

They started to prepare a "free tour" The one thing we read was to NEVER accept a free tour of Murano since it comes with an high-pressure personal shopper. Also -our Vaporetto pass would get us there on an express boat for no additional charge. -The front desk clerk said that the only way to the airport early in the am was a private water taxi for 110 euro. He said we would have to drag our luggage a far distance and over several bridges to get to the bus terminal. FACT -The distance to the bus terminal was actually CLOSER that our short walk to the train station, and the two bridges were very small with the total number of stairs LESS THAN those of the bridge to the train station. We bought two 5 euro tickets and saved 100 euro. -Gondolas – they said it was a FIXED PRICE all over of 120 euro. We paid 80 euro at the Rialto Bridge. Everyone was very nice and helpful. I have a gluten allergy and they were very accommodating in providing gluten free options at the breakfast buffet and for dinner. The room was very nice - the only problem is that it was rather warm and humid and the air conditioing was not available until 20 May (we were there from 28 April thru 2 May).

The rooms are good size, a little bit dark, very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The lobby is very fancy with free WiFi, an added value. Staffs are really nice and helpful. The breakfast was typical, as were all hotel breakfasts on our Italy trip... lots of pastries, cereal, and water down scrambled eggs, cold meats, juice and coffee. I wouldn't pay more. Venice is small and everything is at a walking distance. If you choice convenient than this is this hotel is for you. If you want to save money and convenience is not your top priority, there are lower and better hotels on the mainland a bus ride from Venice.
