I would rate this hotel 3.5 stars, not 4, because of the quality of the rooms.The beds and bathrooms are not really up to 4 star standard. The location near the center of Cambridge is excellent. Radiator was turned off but room was soooo hot. Slept with window open. Next morning maintenance man came to room unsolicited, asking if the heating was OK. I've stayed at the DoubleTree for each of the 4 times I've travelled to Cambridge. I always look forward to returning. The dining area has a lovely view of the river and the punting boats. Lovely location by the river, and the private balcony must be marvellous in warmer weather (than January). Smart, modern hotel that feels sharp-cut but welcoming. Oven-warm biscuits on arrival were an especially nice touch. Restaurant staff were on the brusque side, but desk staff were cheerful and helpful. The DoubleTree is a first class hotel, overlooking the River Cam and offering excellent accomodation, service, dining and leisure facilities. All the staff were efficient, cheerful, helpful and friendly with impeccable manners.

The hotel is beautiful and I've visited it twice. The first time around the visit was very pleasant, but this time the bathroom was dirty which put a sour note on the hotel stay. There were dozens of long brown hairs stuck to the tiles above the bath tub, probably not easy to spot unless one stands right next to them but there they were nontheless. […] The hotel is very expensive when compared to the other hotels in the city and therefore the expectations are high, unfortunately this time they were not met. We had a very pleasant stay and would return.

Spent a weekend in this Hotel - the location was ideal very short walking distance to city centre. Staff were very polite and friendly made you feel very welcome - when checking in we received a nice warm cookie which was v nice and welcoming. Lovely hotel in good location. Corridors to hotel rooms need some attention. Breakfast was very good and if you book breakfast the night before it is £3 cheaper. Parking is quite expensive. Staff were very good and friendly although waiter we had during our evening meal was a litte too attentive. An excellent hotel, well located in the heart of Cambridge next to the river Cam. We paid for riverside views which was well worth it. The hotel was right on the river and from the garden the punting was great fun to watch. The afternoon tea is to be recommended a great selection for the price. Myself and my partner stayed for 3 days at the Doubletree Hilton in Cambridge at the weekend. During our stay we experienced a large number of issues that caused us great inconvenience. We booked via Hotels.com. When we arrived we asked the reception staff if we had booked breakfast to be included, and were advised it was not. We did not have this […] information ourselves in the confirmation from the booking site. We then went to our room to find 2 twin beds, although I thought Id booked a Family room including a double and single bed. We called reception and were told we had booked a twin room but they changed the bed into a king for us. On our last night we asked to pay for breakfast to be added to the room the next morning to be informed at reception that it was included all along. Reading out the details of our booking I also heard that our room was Family as I had thought. We were offered complimentary drinks at the bar as compensation, and had to insist before being offered a refund for the 2 mornings breakfasts. We received no compensation for the smaller room we had over the period. Other smaller complaints included getting overcharged in the restaurant, and the staff not having enough basic English standards to understand the issue. In the end we paid the extra charges to leave quicker. Staff also had such bad English levels at reception that they mis-informed us about taxis, unable to comprehend what we asked them. Overall there was a pattern of poor English which made it frustrating to deal with staff. I understand that hotels and staff make mistakes, however the issue I have is that when I questioned staff about both the breakfast and room type they told me that I was wrong, and as a result I felt stupid. The unhelpful attitude and basic ineptitude was diabolical. I loved the location, atmosphere and decor but the service we received was far from expected. Very comfy and friendly staff.

I got no sleep on the first night due to constant rumbling noise of air conditioning. Evidently my room was next to some machinery. I walked round the hotel and found that there was noise everywhere. During the day it was worse - with screeching and whining noises like an aircraft taking off. I was given a different room on the second night - but overall […] this was a stressful experience. This is a very expensive hotel. I have no doubt that the management are aware of the problem but they choose to do nothing about it. Our only one gripe with this hotel was relating to the bed, it seems a little petty I know, however if you request a king size bed you don't expect two singles pushed together, quite uncomfortable, so you have to specify that if you want a king size, you want a king size, not two singles pushed together.

The location of this hotel is terrific, right by the University and the water. The price seemed high, but the comfort was very good. The amenities of the hotel were excellent. Definitely recommend it!

For us the outstanding feature was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, without exception. The hotel is situated on the bank of the Cam and has a lawn with trees where tables and chairs were set out. If you don't mind paying £5-£6 for a 175ml glass of wine and £8.50 for a double decker sandwich with additions, with other prices in the same sort of category, then this is definitely a place to go. One niggle: the air conditioning in our room was not very effective so, as we faced south the room was very hot. Luxurious. Very clean, tasteful and characterful. Modern, chic and everything you could wish for. Perfect location, massive bedrooms, lovely staff, rooms well equipped. Would go back any day.

Well located within Cambridge with lovely gardens right on the water where you can sit, dine, or just read and watch people punt along the river Cam, picnic or just relax and feed the birds and ducks. Cows are in the meadow beside the hotel and of course, Cambridge University is surrounding the hotel. Wonderful restaurants abound and Cambridge itself […] is a fabulous place to visit with an amazing museum just a short walk away. We've stayed at this property several times as our daughter is a grad student at Cambridge and have always been happy and quite comfortable. This is really quite an outstanding hotel. Just got back from this hotel and couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The location of the hotel was perfect right next to the river Cam where you can take a punt the sight seeing bus stopped a couple of hundred yards away from the hotel also. Well placed with easy access to centre. Parking at £15 per day for residents was a surprise but then cars are not encouraged in the centre. Good breakfast and well decorated dining room. Rooms comfortable and clean. Corridors shabby.

Hotellet ligger fantastisk til ved elven som renner igjennom Cambridge. Utenfor er det grønne enger og gressende okser! Das Double-Tree in Cambrigde ist das erste einer langen Reihe von Hotels im UK, welche ich bewohnt habe und das seinem Ruf gerecht wurde und die 4 Sterne auch verdient hat. Wenn man ein Zimmer mit Flusssicht bucht, geniesst man Ruhe mitten in der City, im Sommer sind auch die Aussenanlagen benutzbar, der Service ist aufmerksam aber nicht aufdringlich […] und im Bad fallen einem mal nicht Fliessen oder Armaturenteile auf die Füsse... Der Internetzugang hat überall funktioniert, ein ausreichend grosser PKW-Parkplatz ist vorhanden, das Wellness-Angebot hat für jeden Geschmack etwas und die Preise sind angemessen, mit einem sozialregulativen Nebeneffekt, der ungestörten Aufenthalt unterstützt.
