A nice guest house. Only complaint would be inaccessibility of staff part of the day and lack of free wi-fi or internet. A bit tacky to charge for the use of a centrally located computer.

A very romantic place where they really pay attention to the details. A 25 minute drive from Cape Town center, next door to Muizenberg beach, 20 minutes to Boulders Beach and 30 minutes to the Cape of Good hope. Parking is on-street with a car guard. Stairs go down to the coast and a charming street full of shops, restaurants, and cafes. Plenty within […] walking distance. Our room was modern but still romantic and was clean and comfortable. Our room, "Jenny," had a view of the ocean, the mountains, and the fishing boats that was lovely. We saw whales swimming by one afternoon. Plug in heater in the room. A bottle of local wine and of water provided in the room for a reasonable fee. The staff was courteous and helpful. The hotel has plenty of comfortable sitting areas (one inside with a fireplace and reading materials, some outside near the pool, and one on the patio with blankets in case it gets cold and binoculars to watch the whales). Breakfast was excellent and there were plenty of choices for several nights stay. I highly recommend the eggs with truffle oil. Coffee was also excellent, made from an "illy" coffee machine. A free coffee service was also offered each morning where you sign up the night before for a specialty coffee to be delivered to your room at your specified time. Overall, I loved this B&B and would recommend it to anyone looking to have a romantic getaway. További részletek

what a fantastic place. all of the staff was extremely nice and helpful, breakfast was amazing. the room was beautiful and very clean with great vviews. kalk bay is a bit farther from the city than my wife and i expected, but so worth it. would highly recommend to anyone and hope to stay there again in the future.

Very cute/clean b&b at reasonable drivable distance from Cape Town (V&A Waterfront) and very good price. Nice view of ocean and Table Mountain from adjacent balcony (not from room as only 2 rooms face the ocean). Private washrooms were great and in room safe was a real bonus. Breakfast was good but would recommend bakeries or cafes near by (cheaper and better selection). TV in room and wifi available for low cost .. Would highly recommend! Staff were very accommodating.. Warm packs were also prepared every night for guests to stay warm during chilly winter months. We already know the area and Chartfield suited us very well. I loved the old-fashioned idea of complimentary tea or coffee being brought to the room, but a small fridge and a kettle would have been useful (I like to make a hot chocolate at bed time!). I can only assume that the other reviews regarding this hotel were written by friends and family of the owner.Our stay was mid winter in Cape Town and as the room was quite old and draughty with high ceilings and wooden floors thank goodness they were enjoying a very warm spell for mid winter.There was 1 very small heater that wouldn't have warmed a […] room a 10th of the size.We arrived late evening and were let in by the night watchman who was extremeley pleasant but as you have to request shower gel and hairshampoo!!! we could not have a shower.The next day we finally managed to find someone to ask we had a shower but as there wasn't a mirror in the room only in the bathroom I had to go and borrow 2 extension leads so I could get the hairdryer to reach from the only available plug in the bedroom to the bathroom mirror.I see this place is said to be minimilistic I would change that to done on the cheap.Parking is a nightmare as there is no parking on the premises.There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room so this is only available in the morning in the lounge.I actually live in Cape Town and am regularly asked to recommend places,needless to say this wont be one I recommend!!! Came with high expectations and wasn't disappointed. Service was friendly, rooms were lovely. In hindsight maybe would have wanted to stay closer to Cape Town city centre, but that's just us. If you want a lovely guest house in a beautiful location, this is it.

Chartfield is lovely. Our room was ideal and the staff was friendly and accomodating. Kalk Bay was a great haven to return to at the end of the day. Plenty of good restaurants without the noise & bustle of the citycenter. We loved it Ask for one of the rooms on the balcony, a great view!

The Chartfield Guesthouse was a wonderful place. The staff was wonderful and very helpfull. The breakfasts were great and very reasonable. The location was nice about 15 miles from city bowl but great places to eat within easy walk. The one thing not so great was parking. The street at Chartfield Gatesville Road is two way and narrow with cars parked […] on one side and two way traffic using one lane with a curve and hill going north. So one morning I pull out going north and a car is coming up the hill not illegal as I was told but they did not have the Right of Way. They should have backed down the hill and let me thru but I ended up backing up hill around a curve to pull into an empty spot to let them thru. So I learned and strongly recommend to park on Anderson Street 2 Blocks South of the Chartfield because then you can get down to M4 Main Road on a Street that is truelly one way. Much less wondering if you will encounter traffic blindly. But still a very nice expierience I stayed 2 weeks and would stay there again rather then closer to city. További részletek

Staff extremely nice and helpful but the place acording to me doesn't with it's 4 stars. The room offerd a very nice view on the harbor but it was cold even with the radiator on. We stayed in many places where 2 single beds were put together to make a double bed but at Chartfield Guesthouse even the sheets were single bed's size so we were just cold […] all night long and had to ask for an extra blanket. The Chartfield was a very pleasant suprise. We were expecting an OK place in an OK location but were very impressed on both accounts. Our arrival was fairly late but the night watchman, Stanley, met us as we were parking and helped us get situated. The room had a stunning view of Kalk Bay and harbor and the room itself was large and very comfortable. […] In the morning we met the owner, Florian, who was very friendly and very generous with advice for enjoying the Cape Town area. Overall the staff were very pleasant, helpful and always eager to please. Besides the excellent room (the Jacob) we especially enjoyed the breakfast at an extra $7 US per person. We also really liked the pre-breakfast complimentary coffee delivered to our room, we chose lattes. Kalk Bay was also a pleasant suprise since we really knew nothing about Cape Town. The Harbor there is beautiful, safe and offers the chance to stroll around town and on the docks. The town boasts several excellent restaurants the specialize in seafood, we had excellent wild mussels at the Olympia and great kingclip at the Harbour House. Also the location is perfect because it is not in the hu bub of Cape Town but is within a half hour of downtown or table mountain. Our only regret is that we only spent 3 nights there. Great guesthouse, comfortable and near transport to famous sites. Tours arranged as requested, and staff friendly and customer service focussed. Especially enjoyed watching the whales frisking about in the water over breakfast. we felt like we were part of a familyy there. the staff cared.

Super place, highly recommended. An oasis, with outstanding breakfast and very pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent base for excursions in the Cape Point area including the Boulder Beach penguins. Try and get a seaview room.
