Empire Hotel

Perfect location for our family holiday, staff were great.

Room was much smaller than have have had in past stays. Bathroom - tiny.

I booked this hotel primarily due to the location which was perfect for attending the Met Opera. It's literally right outside and across the street as well as being incredibly convenient to the Subway (66th St 1 line stop). Hotel was other wise as expected with the main highlights be the shower and the lobby bar.

Staff were extremely helpful! Room was nice, air conditioning unit is a bit loud! Bed was a good size and comfortable however there was no duvet Hairdryer in room was very good with shampoo conditioner and lotion provided each day Hotel is located really near Central Park and 15 mins from Times Square

The room was very small. I didn't have an issue with that. The problem was it was exceptionally hot and noisy. If I was in the room and turned on the air conditioning, then the cold air would blow on me wherever I was in the room apart from the bathroom. Even if I left the air conditioning on high for 8 hours or more, the room temperature was never less than 71 degrees. I finally tried putting a blanket on part of the air conditioner vent at night which helped a bit but the room would still end up above 70 degrees. Perhaps that would work for some but even when I was able to catch some sleep, I woke up in a sweat. Given that the hotel rooms have obviously not been upgraded for a very long time, the room I was in will have the heat issue until they upgrade. So if you want to stay at the Empire, don't let them put you in room 1141. They really should use it as a storage closet. They have a nice bar scene and the bar food is good. All but one member of the staff was lovely. When I went to check out, the staffer behind the counter gave me a look as if to say "Why are you bothering me?". All he had to say was you're all set. I probably should have complained about the room, but I was very busy during my stay. Next time I'll opt for someplace that may not be as "cool" in terms of ambience but that has modern rooms with good temperature controls.
