We probably stayed at Namba Oriental a total of 10 times. We used to like the 4-star standards (service, cleanliness, facilities) and the unbeatable location.
Unfortunately, our latest stay will be the last one. The service has gone downhill and the cleanliness is barely worth a 2-star hotel.
Cleanliness: the carpet in the room looked so run down and dirty that it is not even welcoming. During this holiday we stayed at other 4-star hotels, and the difference is striking.
Service: when my parents checked in, their keys could not open the door of their room. If it weren't for an employee (seemingly a senior one) who was helping out with luggages, it would have been a round trip to reception to sort it out.
The rooms no longer have an extension phone. You have to use the extension phone near the elevators. If you realize after your shower that the cleaners took away the old pajamas but did not provide new ones, you have to put on normal clothes and walk to the elevators to call and complain.
Additionally, our room fridge was not working so they replaced it with a new one, but the model they provide is so weak we had to buy ice bags (and renew them) from the local convenience store to keep things cool. This is unacceptable for a 4-star hotel, even more so when you travel with a baby and need to store breast milk or formula, or if you have medicine that requires refrigeration (e.g: insulin).
At this point, we will not return here and look for more baby-friendly alternatives.
