A big disappointment.
Both the Hotels.com and The Falken Hotel trumpeted the excellent Hotel restaurant on their websites. This was one of the main reasons that we booked. We were looking forward to this - but arrived only to be told that the Hotel restaurant was closed for Low Season.
We said that we understood this but that it should have been mentioned on their website, as otherwise we would not have booked. The Proprietress had no answer to this, other than to keep repeating the above excuse. of 'low season'.
Both Hotels.com and the Hotel Falken are at fault here. There was no option to book full board on the Hotels.com website so we had to wait until arrival at the hotel before we found out that there was no restaurant. We ate instead at the Italian restaurant at the other end of town (one of only two open) and on 2 nights got soaked walking there (no lift available from the hotel). Other nights we had a picnic in our room. The hotel itself is well past its prime. I understand that their main selling point is that it is traditional and historic - but if was difficult to find any comfortable place to sit on the ancient furniture in the lounge area. Our beds were clean and acceptable but definitely not super comfy or intended for stays of more than a few days.
Finally, do not try to do the 7/8 minute walk with your luggage up to the hotel from the station unless you are young and fit. It is very, very steep and we were glad we had booked a pick up from the hotel.
