It was nearly 2:00 when I arrived on a very rainy day after a long trip, and the front desk wanted to charge $50 for early check-in. In fairness, check-in is at 3:00, but under the circumstances and given the timing, that was a ridiculous price and not something that a good hotel would normally impose. Ultimately, they waived the fee and allowed us into our room early because the rooms had no towels (and we were told they wouldn't until 6:00). We therefore couldn't even dry our hands as we got ready to go. After an evening event, there were towels, but we never received washcloths. Only one elevator worked out of three, adding a lot of time to simply getting in and out of the hotel. One set of blinds didn't fully cover the window.
Overall, it seemed like every effort was made to cut costs while still charging a lot, which made the experience more off-putting than it needed to be.
