We have visited this hotel on many occasions, from when it was the Best Western Monk Bar. Much has changed since then. However it is still a friendly welcoming (if somewhat corporate affair). My only criticisms on this visit were:Lack of fried eggs in the morning - eventually one turned up on a plate a lovely lady had taken to keep warm. Mu second egg came later and had obviously beendone in a rush as it was a little "snotty".
On my last visit the bar was poor - with a can of Guinness not beiong used as it had frozen at the back of the fridge, surely a sign of poor stock rotation. Bar staff were all over the pace, but no real empathy with the customer. Didn't use the bar on this occasion, instead getting mildly enlivened at the Old Starre in town. Didn't dine in either - preferring an excellent steak at "Caesar's" a 5 minute walk away.
Overall the hotel was comfortable - had a nice upfrade to a De Luxe room with a lovely big bed and large TV. Good bathroom with a hiot tap which turned on the wrong way(!).
Thanks for the welcome "cookie" - in Egland these are generally called "biscuits"...
We came by bus, which was a boobn as car parking in York centre is horrendous and expensive. Overnight at the hotel it's "5.00 for the night on a first come basis, and even with the Councikl car park it's £14.50.
