We were in Ireland visiting family when we got stuck in Drogheda late. We called the hotel to see if they could help us out since we simply couldn't get to Galway that night. The hotel was very rude and didn't do much to help us with the problem. I understand having cancellation policies, but this one seems to strict. I went online and it was clear the hotel didn't lose out on a reservation since they still had vacancies. Oh well.
Breakfast will be an extra 10 Euros and is not worth it. Just plan on eating somewhere else. It was also very noisy with staff banging doors all day. I stayed two days to have a restful day but it was too loud to rest.
Conveniently situated just off the coast road, and within comfortable walking distance to the city center. The owners were helpful and friendly and the included Irish breakfast was ample, with alternatives to eggs and sausage like porridge, yogurt, fruit and cereal, if you prefer.
On arrival the Guest house was unlocked so we waited in the guest lounge room until the Owner arrived. We did not realise there was a Grand Final of Hurling in the town so our timing was not great as she was missing the last half to come and check us in. The hallway was untidy with a lot of items unrealted to the guests needs stored here. The table with travel brochures was overfilled and messy and needed a good clean up.
The guest room was as pictured and the French doors lead onto the balcony which had a water view, however this balcony is shared by three rooms. This would have been ok except smoking was allowed on the balcony. We had to keep our French doors closed as the other guests smoke entered our room if we wanted to have them open. As there was no other option for fresh air we found the room to be stuffy and claustrophobic.
We found the Manager to be friendly and breakfast was ok but for the amount charged a little underwhelming. There was not much choice for vegetarians and for the Ten Euros each it was a small helping.
The room was not as clean as it should be. Under the bed there is a thick layer of dust and a build up of dirt. It is obvious the bed is not being moved for the carpet to be cleaned underneath. The toilet seat needs fiixing as it moves off the base when seated.
There is another B&B's next door and I think I would stay at that one if we visited the area again as it looked cleaner.
Upon arrival, a less-than friendly woman with a constantly barking "guard dog" greeted me. It was not pleasant. Reception was done in the super messy kitchen of the place. She kept saying that we were having a "misunderstanding" in terms of payment. I'd just forgotten that I'd booked and not paid. It was awkward, and her language barrier made it much worse. Outside of the staff, the place needs updates in a serious way. The location was convenient enough, but if there are other places out there that are of similar price, go elsewhere.
This B&B was clean and the owners so very nice and welcoming but the heat did not work and it was snowing outside. They were aware of it and tried to fix but apparently couldn't. We were there for two nights and it snowed so we froze. The room was entirely too small for two people. Should have been a single room. Location is misleading in the description. Too far to walk to the city center. Was told a short nice walk but it was an 30 minute walk and note easy especially under the weather conditions. I hate to say it because they were nice but I wouldn't stay again.
We had booked a front ocean view and when we got there and asked about it the lady said âwhy you want ocean view is dark outside now!â well weâre not dumb we knew it was night when we got there but obviously in the morning we would be able to enjoy the view and that is the whole reason why we picked this location... anyhow, now that weâve been there we would pick any other B&B on this street, trust me there are quite a few to pick from! Most people where super nice in Ireland expect for this place.
While this guest house is located across the street and dunes from of Galway Bay, the room I was given was a back attic room with only a skylight for view (of the sky) and ventilation (without handles, too high for me to reach to open or close). As they still had vacancies advertised, I requested a different room but was told it (they?) were "family rooms". The clerk was pleasant and tried to please - the owner she had to contact for "permission" was not. The (same) clerk provided a generous and tasty hot breakfast, and a welcoming guest parlor.
Our experience was made even more memorable by the beautiful young Hungarian woman named Monica...I hope I am spelling that correctly. She managed the B&B and was very welcoming, making every effort to get us settled in comfortably.
She is an unfriendly. The room is dusty. The breakfast cost more than expected. The breakfast was miserable (there was even a bunch of grapes used; it was almost unripe!).
