This hotel is excellent and it prom
Pros: -Fantastic location. -Generally clean. -Nice front desk staff. Cons: -Walls paper thin—could hear crying infant and fratty partying tourists at 4:00 a.m. many nights. -Mattresses hard and uncomfortable. -Terrible lighting. Not something I usually notice, but was really unpleasant. No lamps or soft lights (even by the bed), just harsh overhead ones. Mixed with the garish gold molding in the room, made for an ugly aesthetic. -Mold and cracked in the bathroom (see photo). -High "facility fee" charged after for very little facilities. I used the gym my first morning there and, though the equipment looked new, it was clearly a cheap bulk purchase (treadmill made a very loud noise with every step, elliptical stride length odd and short, no mats available). If this hotel were more affordable, I might have overlooked some of the cons. But my double bed room ran $275-345/night some nights, so this was disappointing. Will not book again.
The people who work here are extremely friendly on that alone I would love to give the hotel 5 stars. The room itself is very tiny but smart and green with lights that only go on when you have your key in the slot--we weren't told that at check-in. Everything is digital including the "make up the room" sign. It would have been nice to get instructions when we checked-in. The bathroom accessory boxes was one of the most complete I've seen--toothbrushes/toothpaste, comb, sewing kit, shaving kit, etc The bathroom floor was decorated with a Q-tip from a previous occupant the 3 days I was there. It was way back under the left side of the sink and difficult to reach; I just didn't need it so I left it for the next occupant. Noise on Saturday night--honking horns annoying but rest of stay traffic not a problem The thing that got me most was the $25 resort fee charge for a non-existent resort. They called an exercise room with a small steam room a "resort." That was misleading to the point of being fraudulent.
This is in a very convenient spot on Allen St. and close to alot of restaurants, and Bowery. The rooms were a decent size, and are very modern. I loved having my balcony, was nice eating out there on a nicer day. There was one small maintenance issue, but the staff was very quick to address the same day!! Would definitely consider again on a future business trip.
Overall a cool hotel in a great location. 2 things that were very annoying and displeasing: - they claim to have 24 hour check-in / 11 am check-in...this is NOT TRUE...check-in is per usual at 3pm which was misleading - they offer a complimentary bottle of water to each guest per day...but do not make this readily known.
