Hurst Castle

Hurst Castle is an imposing artillery fort from the 16th century that offers tours of the central keep and bastions. Created by Henry VIII for coastal protection against France and the Holy Roman Empire, the castle served as a defense fort through major conflicts like the English Civil War, the Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars. You can tour the castle to see the remnants of the keep and bastions, as well as the historic lighthouses that were constructed on the grounds in the 18th century.

St Nicholas Church

The fascinating, 11th-century St Nicholas Church rests on the peaceful grounds of Brockenhurst Parish and sports beautiful architecture and unique touches like herringbone wall work and ornate windows. The church is one of the oldest in New Forest, and its surrounding grounds are home to lush plants and flowers, including hazels, pennywort and bluebells. Numerous World War I soldiers from New Zealand and other neighborhoods are buried onsite, as is a popular and beloved snake-catcher from the 19th century, folk-hero Brusher Mills.
