Fukuoka Prefecture is located on the north bank of Kyushu, and Fukuoka City, where the prefectural office is located, is the largest city in Kyushu. Something of an international and domestic flight hub, Fukuoka's proximity to the Korean Peninsula and continental Asia has led to it being known as the gateway to Asia. Fukuoka Prefecture's second city, Kitakyushu, is famous for its beautiful night view and was certified as one of the "New Three Major Night Views of Japan" in 2018.

The main attractions of Fukuoka include Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine, home to the god of learning; Sakamoto Hachimangu shrine, recently known for its connections to Japan's new Reiwa era; journeys down the Suigo Yanagawa waterway; and Mojiko Retro, where you'll find many once-prosperous commercial buildings from the Taisho and Showa eras. Fukuoka is also famous for its countless food stalls. The street food stalls of Tenjin and Nakasu cover everything from staples like ramen, oden, yakitori, and gyoza dumplings, to new offerings such as French food and coffee.
