UC Riverside Highlander Weekend College Visit
The staff is very friendly and helpful. But the facility is run-down and not kept up. Peeling paint, holes in the wall. Dust all along the baseboards and corners. The main doors do not have a seal on the bottom so bugs come right in. Along with other people's marijuana smoke, cigar smoke, and vehicle fumes were particularly strong since we were placed on the first floor.
I eventually dropped a bath towel on the floor in an attempt to give our room more of a seal/privacy.
The gym is not functional. Just a converted hotel room that is really so they can checkbox that they "have a gym". It would be a better deal to drive under the freeway to UC Riverside and pay $5 to use the brand new 2 story school facility.
The pool is also difficult to use when it is hot because no shade is provided when you exit the pool to sit down.
The walls are very thin. There was a couple engaging in very loud sex. This was difficult to ignore as I was there with my teenage son to do a college tour at UC Riverside. Not ideal.
I felt that the pricing for this particular weekend was marked up. It was Highlander Welcome Weekend at UC Riverside so the entire town and surrounding area was filled with thousands of college seniors and their families. Every other hotel was $250 and up per night and we could not afford another option. (Quality Inn was charging $170)
I would like to reiterate that despite the owner not investing in the facility, the staff was welcoming and helpful.
