Friendly Staff, room showing it's age!
Regular stayer at Mecure Newport, Check in and staff always friendly. Room on this trip was starting to show its age, fittings starting to show wear, walls with lots of grubby marks on the walls. Room had a strange smell when I first entered the room but I quickly became nose blind to it. Drainage in the bathroom sink was slow so you had to turn the tap off when brushing your teeth so it didn't overflow. I like staying at this hotel, it suits my needs for business perfectly, but it does average out at over 100 pounds a night, this puts it at a price point of high end hotels such as Celtic Manor which is just down the road. If the condition of the rooms deteriorates it will make the hotel very expensive for what it is. When the hotel was new it could command a premium but maybe not so much now, this is a shame as the food and staff are great. Other rooms I have stayed in previously were decent so maybe a one off.
