Best to avoid!
Very disappointing stay at Hilton Cologne for a quick stopover during an extended "emergency trip" by rail caused by the LHR airport closure. The proximity to Cologne main train station is a plus, and the breakfast service is very, very good indeed.
But that's where the positive experiences end. The hotel staff at check-in and check-out was less than courteous, very inefficient and could not explain the most basic features of the hotel - like how to get to the lift to access your hotel room, etc.. The signage was also crazy inefficient in the hotel: very small signs which are placed where you actually don't need them (i.e. sign for lift hanging in front of the lift doors, etc.). Queen room with 20 sqm felt very claustrophobic due to a highly inefficient layout - with very limited floor space around the bed and in the small hallway to the room door.
The bath room looked nice, but my shower head could not be fixed to it's railing and constantly fell down when showering. There was also visible black mold in the shower cubicle, and thus, neither basic hygiene nor functionality standards were met.
The mattress was very soft and so were the pillows - a clear sign of age. Had a very uncomfortable night and did not get a good rest. Room also felt stuffy despite the available aircon system.
Overall, the price/value ratio is unacceptable - so was the unfriendly "lah di dah" attitude of the hotel staff. At no time is your Hilton Honors status of any help, nor is it acknowledged.
